The Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) has caused the suspension of classes in several municipalities of the Valencian Community due to forecasts of heavy rains and gusts of wind on Tuesday. The municipalities and the University of Valencia have already communicated this measure. The port of Valencia has also had to close to maritime traffic since early in the morning.
In Elche, the most affected city in terms of school population, an emergency meeting was held on Monday due to the yellow risk weather forecasts issued by the State Meteorological Agency. Given the possibility of strong winds and rain, it has been decided to suspend classes in all educational centers in Elche, both public and private, including nursery schools, primary, secondary, music conservatories, among others, on Tuesday.
On the other hand, the University of Valencia has declared emergency level 1, which means that non-attendance at academic activities that require attendance control, such as exams, will not affect the academic performance of students if there are circumstances preventing their travel to campus.
In addition to the suspension of classes, municipal sports facilities and public parks in Elche have also been closed for security reasons due to adverse weather conditions. The storm has forced preventive measures in other municipalities such as Sueca, Enguera, Alzira, and NĂ quera.
Furthermore, the Valencia book fair has been postponed due to the heavy rains forecasted for the coming days. The organization has apologized and informed that educational centers, sports facilities, and parks and gardens will be closed all day Tuesday.
In summary, authorities have made coordinated decisions in several municipalities to protect the safety of citizens and students in light of the adverse weather conditions caused by DANA in the Valencian Community.
